Few would disagree that we are living through some of the most unpredictable times in modern history. This state of unpredictability touches diverse facets of life such as the environment and the causes/effect of the greenhouse emissions and global warming, the evolution of a kaleidoscope-like political landscape that can throw up new political dispensations and groupings in every election, changes in the global demographic composition and its impact on many nations and societies, and realignments in global economic equilibrium, to list a few. This unpredictability is further compounded by the fact that never before have nations been more interdependent and never before have the threads of globalization patched together such a large chunk of humanity.

Leveraging Human Capital

The ask for the future HR practitioners and the function as such would be to not just be flexible enough to be able to deal with unpredictability that surrounds us in diverse forms, but also be able to envision change and prepare for it in a proactive manner. Only those who embrace the challenge of unpredictability will be capable of weaving it into their very strategy so that it becomes their strength rather than a threat. Turning chaos and uncertainty into market opportunities shall require constant innovation and ever increasing efficiency. In the knowledge era, this becomes more a people issue than of anything else. The theme stresses the necessity for and celebrates such people practices and processes that are forward looking and that have the capability to become change movements in their own right.
